The Story of a Wordsmith
And like any good tale, it starts with "once upon a time...."
Once upon a time, there was a girl who really (really really!) loved words.
She wrote a lot. And read a lot. She studied how to speak and write well and realized one day that her language love could be shared with the world.
In 2022, Wordsmith Services was born out of my passion for words, my love for people, and my heart to spread good communication techniques. I loved the communication theories and professional writing courses I took in college and I believe that everyone can learn better ways to use words well.
It’s obvious that certain people “need” an editor—namely authors, journalists, and the like.
BUT. At the heart of being human, we’re all communicators, and I’m passionate about good writing and good conversations. Good questions. Good newsletters. Good words that are worth your time to read and worth the work to share.
I believe the words we surround ourselves with shape our world.
Colleen Attara, my favorite greeting card artist, writes and creates from this belief that words are tremendously powerful. If you don’t already have a favorite greeting card artist, her work is marvelous!
Words ARE powerful! I’d love to help you use them well.
Life rarely (ever?) goes as planned. The last twelve months were a bit transitional…I lived in three states. I got married. I started a big-girl job as a nonprofit grant writer. I was laid off a few months later because of federal funding changes.
In the midst of it all, I went back to the beginning, where it all started: the words. And I began to rework Wordsmith Services.
Wordsmith Services began as an editing and proofreading service and that will continue.
Additionally, this year I’m expanding my work to share wordy tips and communication techniques that can improve your writing, strengthen your relationships, and help you write, read, and speak with confidence. Communication is something that impacts every facet of our lives, and it is a skill worth working on!
If you’re IN, stay tuned for The Weekly Word, where I’ll share weekly advice about how to use words well, so that you can communicate with confidence.
If you’re OUT, because this newsletter does not fit your needs for this season, please just hit unsubscribe below. Goodbye can be a good word, too. I wish you well.
All in all, I thank you for reading. Thank you for trusting me with your words and for trusting me with your time.
Kindly,
Emily Smith Maljanian
