Does a wordsmith even matter in the age of AI?

My short answer: a resounding YES! :)

In the age of AI, you’re (mostly right). You don’t need me, or any other (human) editor for that matter. Chat GPT can tell you what to write…and a few seconds later, it will write it for you. Countless platforms and plugins will tell you where your grammar is goofy.

And really, how many people are reading every single word?

Hear me out.

We’re dangerously close to outsourcing all our creativity, voice, and vision to inanimate processors that do not have your best interests at heart. But I do.

I began Wordsmith Services with a love for words. I continue on because of my love for people.

The words we write, speak, and share are the very heart of being human. And that’s why a wordsmith matters! AI can tell you if your words work….and I can tell you how they resonate with another human. But as we stare at screens, neglect real-time conversations and outsource writing skills to online word processors, we’re forgetting how to use words well. We’re losing our voices.

But it doesn’t have to be that way.

Wordsmith Services began with editing. But on the brink of a communication crisis, I can’t stay silent. Words are just too important!

^It’s all so important, and wordsmithservices.net is here to help!

To remember the human side of good communication, this week’s tip is to call someone!

It’s so much easier to send a text. But it’s so encouraging to talk in real time, to swap stories and share a laugh. Good writing is a medley of words and tone and style. What better way to practice your voice than to have a conversation with someone you can be fully yourself with?

If you want some new questions, here’s a list of some fun conversation starters (I loved number 13!)…or better yet, hit REPLY and send me your favorite question instead!

So take this editor’s advice—close out of this email, go take a walk, and call up a friend!

Until next week,

Emily M

P.S. I believe that everyone is a writer and communicator…but if you know someone who write a bit more than you do, go ahead and forward them this email!
